For music lovers, Sligo is most definitely the place to be this summer with live music to suit every taste, every day of the week!

We are privileged to have some of Ireland’s greatest musicians in our midst playing here, featuring traditional Irish sessions, jazz, bluegrass, singer songwriters, and good time rock n roll.

Sligo has a strong traditional music heritage which continues to play an important role particularly through the Coleman Traditional Irish Music Centre  in Gurteen and the many annual traditional music festivals which receive grant-aid from Sligo County Council such as the County Fleadh, the South Sligo Summer School in Tubbercurry, the James Morrison Festival in Riverstown, the John Egan Festival in Ballintogher, theTraditional Singing Festival,  the Carmel Gunning International Summer School Festival of Irish music, Coleman Country Bodhran School, Cos Cos Sean Nos Festival and many more.

There is nothing quite like being at a live session, especially one in Sligo where the sights are as good as the sounds. The camaraderie between fellow artist, the fun and the laughter all enjoyed while the undercurrents of conversations around the bar adds to the warm and friendly atmosphere. The interaction between musician and audience can be as entertaining as the performance itself.
Sligo is home to The Jazz Lads who host the longest running residency at The Harp Tavern every Sunday, The White Gorillas, instrumental group Tucan, rock group The Odd Socks, fusion quartet No Crows, The Unwanted, Seamie O’Dowd, Dervish and Tommy Flemming among others who bring full houses to support them when they play.

There’s plenty of sessions to keep you entertained throughout the week, and the hardest decision is often which ones to choose! But advice to the wise – get there early to get a seat.

Go on, get out and enjoy. You know you want to…
