A weeklong celebration of Irish traditional music, dance and song. Learn to play a traditional Irish musical instrument or advance your skills at the hands of a master
Participants at the South Sligo Summer School can expect excellent tuition in traditional music, singing and dance. Class sizes are kept small and are graded. Traditional instruments taught include fiddle, flute, tin whistle, harp, concertina, uilleann pipes, banjo, button accordion, traditional guitar and bodhrán.
Set and sean nós dancing workshops are held each morning and afternoon respectively. Workshops in sean nós singing, lilting and traditional singing are extremely popular and a packed programme of events also includes nightly céilís in St. Brigid’s Hall and concerts featuring tutors, local musicians playing in the South Sligo Style, and visiting singers and musicians.
Afternoons are equally busy with master classes, informal slow sessions led by summer school tutors and sean nós dancing workshops in St. Brigid’s Hall. Visitors to Tubbercurry during the week of the South Sligo Summer School can expect to hear the very finest traditional music and to take away musical memories to last a lifetime.
