Shells CafeJane Chambers was a marketing graduate working for a multi national company in the heart of Dublin. Unfulfilled with her life she ditched the city and headed off on a surf and snow adventure. While in Cornwall she met Myles, a fine art drop out who had quit Uni to be a safari guide and was now funding his own surf and snow exploration and chefing around the world. After five years of travel together they decided to settle down.

An ad in a newspaper for a beachside café in need of affection came at just the right time and certainly caught their attention. A move to Strandhill here in Sligo on the rugged Irish coast followed. A year later Shells Seaside Cafe & Bakery has proved to be a great success with a cult following as a flourishing eatery catering for the outdoorsey, creative patrons with delicious, wholesome natural foods, and as Jane says, “We haven’t looked back since.” 

Following on the success of their café, the couple have now published The Surf Café Cookbook for summer 2012. The book brings the reader into the world of Shells and the outdoor lifestyle Jane and Myles now enjoy on the beautiful west coast of Ireland.

The Surf Café Cookbook is about cooking, eating, surfing and making the most of life the Irish way. It’s a compilation of easy to make and tasty recipes, tips from local producers, a guide to the beautiful area of Strandhill and its vibrant culture.

From foraging on the beach to creating the perfect brunch to mixing homemade Baileys, it encourages the reader to make locally produced food that’s fresh, fun, unpretentious and tasty.

As Jane and Myles say, “We use fresh, organic, seasonal produce from the bounty of Irish soil and waters.”

Jane and Myles have built their perfect life in Strandhill and are living their dream, “I can hardly believe we have the privilege of living here and interacting with Strandhill’s vibrant and endlessly creative community,” comments Jane. “In this book we want to share some of our food adventures, but also to celebrate this exceptionally beautiful part of Ireland.”
